Terms of use

By using Yakhnama you agree to these terms. They are meant to be read; if anything is unclear, ask us.

Last updated: 7 October 2026

The service

Yakhnama is a public record of natural hazards in Gilgit-Baltistan, run by Kashan Ghori, an individual in Pakistan. Anyone can read it, and anyone can report what they saw. It is free and has no advertising.

Not a warning system

Yakhnama is not an emergency service and does not issue warnings. Records are checked by people and can be late, incomplete or wrong. Do not rely on Yakhnama to decide whether a place is safe. In an emergency, call Rescue 1122 or your local administration, and follow official warnings.

The information is provided as it is, with no promise that it is complete, correct or available at any given moment.

Accounts

  • Use an email address you can read, and keep your password to yourself.
  • An account is for one person.
  • You are responsible for what is sent from your account.
  • We may suspend an account that breaks these terms, and will say why when we can.

What you may send

  • Your own observations, described truthfully. Say how sure you are; it is fine not to know.
  • Photos you took yourself, or have the right to share.
  • No more personal data about other people than the report needs. Do not name injured people or send photos in which they can be recognised unless it is necessary, and never to embarrass anyone.
  • A report for someone else, only with their consent.

Do not send anything false, hateful or threatening, or anything you do not have the right to share.

Using what you send

You keep the rights you have in your reports and photos. By sending them, you allow Yakhnama to store them, have them reviewed, and publish what this site describes as public: the verified event and, for photos a moderator approves, a copy with the hidden data removed. Published records may be read, cited and reused by others under the licence shown with the record.

The open licence for reusing the record is still being decided. Until it is, ask us before reusing records in bulk.

Moderation

  • Moderators review every report before anything from it is published. Moderators never delete reports: a report can be marked reviewed or archived, with a reason, and that can be undone.
  • An event is published only when a person has verified it. A published event can later be corrected or retracted; a retracted event stays visible, struck through, so the record shows what changed.
  • A moderator may decline to publish a photo, and never publishes one marked sensitive.

Acceptable use

  • No spam, advertising or fake reports.
  • No abuse of moderators, reporters or anyone named in a record.
  • No attempts to break into the service, get around its limits or reach data that is not public.
  • No automated collection that slows the service down for others. Reading at a modest pace is fine; for more, ask us.

Responsibility

We work to keep the record accurate and the service running, but we cannot promise either. As far as the law allows, Yakhnama and the people who run it are not responsible for loss or harm that comes from using the service or its information, or from being unable to use them. Nothing in these terms takes away rights the law gives you.

Changes to these terms

We may change these terms as the service grows. The date at the top shows the latest change. If a change matters for what you send, we will say so on this site before it takes effect.
